A wider patio opening starts with choosing how you want the door to work. At Krasiva®, we install custom multi-slide patio doors with glass panels that slide behind one another which creates more room to move between your home and backyard. Whether you’re replacing an existing door or want to enlarge the opening, we’ll help you choose a configuration for multi-sliding doors that fits your home.

How Much of Your Multi-Sliding Door Will Actually Open?

The width of the door and the width you can walk through are two different measurements. With stacking glass doors, the panels stack at one side or both sides of the opening. Those stacked panels still occupy space. That’s why panel layout matters.

Adding more panels changes the view, the track depth, and how much of the doorway opens. We’ll help you compare those differences before you order, including which direction the panels slide and where they stack. If you are interested in opening up the entire width of the opening, bi-folding doors are a better option.

Think about everyday use. You should be comfortable opening the door to let the dog out or carry dinner to the patio, not just opening the entire system when company comes over.

A Tip on Pool Code Requirements: In Arizona, pool-code requirements can limit multi-sliding doors in specific cities where there’s an ungated pool in the backyard. Each city has its own requirements. Some cities will allow a door alarm in lieu of the self-closing, self-latching handle mounted at 54’’ and some will not or have other requirements.

The door manufacturers do not equip the doors with these items. It is done aftermarket by companies here in town that specialize in making the doors compliant in whatever jurisdiction you live in. We can help you navigate these options to find out what options work best for your home.

A Large Glass Door in Arizona Needs More Than a Good View

More glass makes frame and glass selection especially important. A door beneath a deep patio cover faces different conditions than one exposed to direct afternoon sun.

We offer multi-slide door options with aluminum clad wood or thermally broken aluminum frames, which interrupt heat transfer between the exterior and interior aluminum.

Paired with an appropriate Low-E glass package, these systems combine narrow frames and large views with improved energy performance.

We’ll help you compare options for your home’s exposure, along with frame colors, hardware, and available screens.

The Krasiva® Difference in Multi-Slide Door Installation

A heavy glass panel should move smoothly without a struggle. That starts underneath the door: the sill needs a level, properly supported base, and the frame must be square so the panels meet, seal, and lock correctly.

Our in-house installers are paid by the hour, giving them time to prepare the opening and make the adjustments these systems require. If your project involves widening an opening, we also handle the necessary framing, header (Glulam), drywall, texture, electrical and exterior stucco. The scope of finishing work is explained before installation.

One of the biggest concerns for installing a new multi-slide door is the frame and track depth. For new construction, the wall can be made as thick as needed for the door system from the start. For replacement, we have to deal with the existing wall depth. We may have to lay a concrete stoop on the outside for the track to sit on and thicken the wall on the outside or inside for the frame. Picking the right door and configuration can mitigate some of these things. Our team has the knowledge and experience to recommend the best multi-slide door system for your home’s unique requirements.

A Tip on Wall Depth: The existing wall could be constructed out of 2×4’s, 2×6’s, or masonry block. Aluminum clad wood multi-slides have very wide tracks and frames because the wood requires a lot of depth for the strength required. This makes them difficult to do in most pre-existing homes where you’re creating an opening that was not intended for the door. Vinyl multi-slides are also very deep but can fit in a block wall as long as it is only a three panel multi-slide. The most compatible door systems that we have found for multi-slides are architectural aluminum multi-slides. While some aluminum door systems have very wide tracks and frames, the strength of aluminum allows for narrower panels in certain product lines. This reduces the overall frame and track depth, making the door system easier to accommodate within an existing wall without increasing its thickness or adding a concrete slab. We measure your wall depth and pick an appropriate door that will be the most compatible installation for your home.
